DESCRIPTION:Pls join us for the Annual Meeting of the joint Swedish Chapter
of Power & Energy Society and Power Electronics Society on March 27\, 202
6!\nApart from news from the Chapter and reports from the board\, we will
listen to an interesting technical seminar\, and award the prize for the b
est MSc thesis\, Outstanding Engineer Award and Outstanding Volunteer Awar
d.\n\nAgenda:\n\n- Activity Report 2025\n- Keynote Speech by new IEEE Fell
ow\, Abhay Kumar\, Senior Principal Project Lead Engineer at Global HVDC E
ngineering\, Hitachi Energy\n- Awards announcement:\n– Best M.Sc. thesis
2025\n– Outstanding Engineer Award 2025\n– Outstanding Volunteer Awar
d 2025\n\nKeynote Speech: “Status and Trends of HVDC in India”\n\nAbst
ract:\n\nGovernment of India has set an ambitious target of 500 GW of Non
fossil electric generation capacity by 2030 and adhering Net Zero emission
by 2070. For achieving the ambitious target\, there has been constant add
ition of Renewable Energy in the Indian grid over the past several years.
Most of the Renewable Energy (RE) Sources such as solar and wind are locat
ion dependent in their production and thus need long distance transmission
to serve the load. The major inverter bases resource (IBR) generation is
envisaged in Rajasthan in North\, Gujrat in West and Karnataka in South wh
ile major load centres are located in Punjab and Delhi in North\, Maharash
tra in West and Telengana in South part of the country primarily requiring
transfer of bulk power for long distances. As per the 2024 National Elect
ricity Plan (NEP)\, the installed HVDC transmission system as on date is 3
4500 MW having up to +/- 800 kV Bipole and several back-to-back system in
operation and addition of another 32250 MW of HVDC Bipole system comprises
of LCC and VSC based HVDC system is envisaged in the Transmission system
Planning with the total installed HVDC Transmission capacity of 66750 MW b
y 2032. The NEP envisages the transmission of bulk power from Renewable En
ergy Parks through long distance high capacity HVDC Transmission system fo
r power evacuation\, mostly with overhead (OH) line.\n\nBio of Keynote spe
aker:\n\nAbhay Kumar (Jain) is Senior Principal Project Lead Engineer at G
lobal HVDC Engineering with Hitachi Energy in Ludvika\, Sweden. He studied
Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)\, Roor
kee in India and started his professional career in 1982. Recently he has
been playing a key role in executing several 800 kV UHVDC Projects. He is
Swedish member of CIGRE SC B4 and has been active in several IEEE\, IEC an
d CIGRE working groups. He is recipient IEEE PES Uno Lamm HVDC Award (2019
)\, IEC 1906 Award (2020) and CIGRE Honorary Member Award (2022). He is Fe
