DESCRIPTION:This is a joint meeting of Canadian Society of Senior Engineers
and IEEE Life Members Affinity Groups.\n\nThis series of presentations ha
s been occurring for more than 20 years and is now being also advertised t
o the IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG
) through vTools and other IEEE LMAG's and IEEE members depending upon the
topic. At the same time the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers (CSSE) i
s using their national organization to provide information\, the subject a
nd speaker to members across Canada.\n\nThe next meeting will be held on T
hursday\, February 19\, 2026. The meeting will open at 12:30 pm MST (2:30p
m Eastern)\, with the presentation starting at 12:45 (2:45 pm EST).\n\nPle
ase note the meeting originates in Alberta which is in the Mountain Time Z
one\, so if you are in another province you must account any necessary tim
e shift.\n\nTopic: De-Risking Oil-Gas Technologies to Advance Low Carbon E
nergies\n\nThis talk will present C-FER’s contributions towards utilizat
ion of learnings from oil-gas technologies for advancing energy transition
and low-carbon energy applications. The talk will include examples of how
the industry experience developed for severe service applications\, such
as thermal oil recovery\, can be utilized in the context of carbon integra
tion\, hydrogen synergies\, artificial intelligence\, environmental impact
mitigation\, and global standardization.\n\nC-FER works in partnership wi
th the global energy industry to advance safety\, environmental performanc
e and efficiency – providing analytical\, testing and engineering consul
ting services from two unique world-class facilities in Edmonton\, Alberta
\, Canada.\n\nSpeaker: Jarek Nowinka\n\nBio: Jarek is a Principal Engineer
at C-FER Technologies\, with 30+ years of experience in the energy indust
ry\, primarily involving well integrity and qualification of tubulars and
materials for extreme service applications. Recently\, Jarek has been focu
sing on utilization of learnings from heavy oil industry in support of ene
rgy transition from hydrocarbons to renewable resources. Jarek represents
Canada in ISO Technical Committee 67\, which coordinates international sta
ndards for petroleum and low-carbon energy applications. He is the primary
author of ISO 12835 on qualification of casing connections for thermal we
lls.\n\nJarek completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Universit
y of Calgary (1990)\, subsequent to obtaining his MSc and BSc at the Techn
ical University of Poznan in Poland. He is registered as Professional Engi
neer with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alber
ta (APEGA).\n\nVirtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/540258
