DESCRIPTION:[]\n\nModern electrical power systems require substations that
are reliable\, efficient\, and capable of supporting rapidly evolving grid
demands. This presentation explores the key components involved in substa
tion design\, with emphasis on protection systems\, control architecture\,
and engineering studies required to ensure system reliability and operati
onal efficiency.\n\nThe session will discuss critical elements including s
ubstation layout design\, protection and control schemes and communication
infrastructure.\n\nAttendees will gain practical insights into modern sub
station engineering practices\, protection coordination strategies\, and d
esign approaches that minimize energy losses while enhancing grid resilien
ce.\n\nMegha Bhardwaj is an Electrical Power Systems Engineer with extens
ive experience in substation design\, protection and control engineering\,
and power system studies. With more than a decade of professional experie
nce in the power generation\, transmission\, and distribution sectors\, th
e author has contributed to the design\, analysis\, and commissioning of h
igh-voltage substations and power delivery systems.\n\nThe author has led
 protection and control engineering for multiple 69 kV\, 345 kV\, and 500 k
V AIS and GIS substation projects\, including development of protection on
 e-line diagrams\, AC/DC schematics\, wiring diagrams\, construction instal
lation packages\, and bill of materials. The role also involved coordinati
ng with multidisciplinary engineering teams\, managing technical documenta
tion\, and supporting project scheduling and engineering deliverables.\n\n
The author has extensive experience performing load flow studies\, short c
ircuit analysis\, arc-flash studies\, and protection coordination using ET
AP\, PSCAD\, and SKM\, along with conducting relay setting analysis and ro
ot cause investigations to enhance power system reliability. Earlier in th
e career\, the author worked extensively in power plant commissioning\, ma
intenance\, and electrical system design\, supporting the operation of lar
ge thermal generating units and participating in the commissioning of grid
-connected solar photovoltaic power plants. The author’s technical exper
tise includes substation protection and control design\, power system anal
ysis\, electrical construction documentation\, and leadership of engineeri
ng projects for large-scale power infrastructure systems.\n\nVirtual: http
