DESCRIPTION:IEEE Richland NPS is Happy to let everyone know about another o
pportunity to hear an interesting topic from our friends at the B Reactor
Museum Association’s Presentation.\n\nWhat: B Reactor Museum Association
’s Presentation "Dr. Chien-Shiung Wu and the Saving of the B Reactor"\n\
nWho: Megan Simpson\,\n\nWhen: Monday\, March 9\, 2026\, presentation at 6
:00pm\n\nWhere: Richland Public Library\n\nAt the upcoming event Megan Sim
pson\, a public historian and docent with the Manhattan Project National H
istorical Park (Hanford Unit)\, will present. This free presentation\, Dr.
Chien-Shiung Wu and the Saving of the B Reactor\, will take place on Mond
ay\, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Richland Public Library.\n\nSimpson is a
history major specializing in the Manhattan Project and Cold War era\, wom
en in science\, and the social history of nuclear sites like Hanford. Her
work focuses on using individual lives and communities to illuminate large
r historical systems\, making complex scientific and historical topics acc
essible and engaging for public audiences.\n\nDuring this presentation\, S
impson will explore the pivotal yet often overlooked role physicist Chien-
Shiung Wu played in identifying xenon poisoning at the B Reactor during Wo
rld War II. Her research provided critical evidence that helped confirm bo
th the problem and the solution\, allowing the reactor to operate successf
ully. Attendees will gain insight into the science behind this breakthroug
h and a deeper understanding of women’s contributions to nuclear science
