DESCRIPTION:The Richmond Section has two STEM Outreach opportunities coming
up in March and we are recruiting volunteers to help. We will have a plan
ning meeting for these two events on Monday\, March 9 at 8:00 pm. Signing
up for the planning meeting does not commit you to participating in either
or both events\, but this is where we will decide what type of exhibits t
o bring to both events. We have a number of exhibits already\, but we are
very open to suggestions for new exhibits to more completely cover our fie
lds of interest.\n\nThe first opportunity is Celebrate Engineering Ingenui
ty Day\, which will be on Sunday\, March 15th between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm
at the Dewey Gottwald Center of the Science Museum of Virginia (2301 W Le
igh St\, Richmond\, VA 23220). This is an annual event held in conjunction
with the Richmond Joint Engineers Council. It targets K-12 students\, but
most of the attendees tend to be Middle School or High School students. W
e will have several tables of interactive STEM exhibits and we will need v
olunteers to staff the tables and speak with the visiting students and the
ir parents.\n\nThe second opportunity is the Moody Middle School Career Ev
ent\, which will be on Wednesday\, March 18th between 8:45 am and 10:45 am
  at George H. Moody Middle School (7800 Woodman Rd\, Henrico\, VA 23228).
This will be an opportunity to talk with middle school students who are at
that point when they really start thinking seriously about what they want
to be when they grow up. You will have an opportunity to talk with the st
udents and show them examples of the types of things that people in your f
ield of interest would do in their careers.\n\nIf you are interested in be
ing involved in either or both of these events\, please complete the regis
tration\, even if you cannot make this planning meeting. (There will be a
place in the registration where you can indicate that you won’t make the
meeting but want to be kept aprised of the group’s activities.)\n\nIf y
ou have questions\, please contact Allen Jones at allen.jones@ieee.org.\n\
