DESCRIPTION:Event Title: IEEE GRSS Distinguished Lecture\n\nEvent Type: Tec
 hnical Seminar / Distinguished Lecture\n\nDate: 24 March 2026\n\nTime: 6:0
 0 PM – 7:00 PM (NZST)\n\nVenue: Seminar Room 405-430\, Building 405\, 7
Grafton Road\, The University of Auckland\, New Zealand\n\nLecture Title:
Amplifying Insights\, Elevating Impact: An Introduction to GRSS and the Po
wer of Remote Sensing\n\nAbstract:\nThis presentation provides an overview
of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS)\, highlighting i
ts global mission\, key activities\, and role in advancing geoscience and
remote sensing. It introduces the transformative power of remote sensing i
n enabling data-driven understanding of Earth systems\, with applications
spanning environmental monitoring\, disaster management\, and sustainable
development. The presentation also emphasizes the professional and persona
l benefits\n\nof GRSS membership—particularly for students and young pro
fessionals—including access to technical resources\, networking opportun
ities\, mentorship\, and pathways for leadership and global engagement. Ov
erall\, the presentation aims to raise awareness of GRSS as a dynamic comm
unity-of-communities and to encourage broader participation in leveraging
remote sensing to address pressing societal challenges.\n\nOrganized by: I
EEE\, IEEE GRSS New Zealand\n\nSpeaker: Prof. Saibun Tjuatja\nPresident\,
IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS)\nAssociate Professor\, U
niversity of Texas at Arlington\n\nShort Bio:\nSaibun Tjuatja received the
B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA)\, the M.S. de
gree from Purdue University\, and the Ph.D. degree from UTA\, all in Elect
rical Engineering. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Elect
rical Engineering at UTA and currently serves on the University Quality En
hancement Plan Committee and the UTA College of Engineering AI Curriculum
Committee. He previously served as Associate Chair of the Department of El
ectrical Engineering from 1999 to 2002 and as Undergraduate Program Direct
or from 2012 to 2024.\n\nHis research interests include wave propagation a
nd scattering in random media\, remote sensing and radar imaging\, subsurf
ace sensing\, and wireless structural health monitoring. Dr. Tjuatja has b
een a member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society since 1988.
He served on the Organizing Committee and Technical Program Committee for
