Its pace was heavily influenced b y the availability of increasing computer power for processing data and in novation in data acquisition techniques.\n\nThe development of integrated circuitry in support of putting a man on the moon in 1969 enabled digital computing to progress rapidly. Exploration wanted 3-D seismic imaging\, bu t\, that required much larger computer memories and faster data throughput (I/O) than available. As a result\, analog techniques\, such as optical d ata filtering and acoustical holography\, were investigated by oil company R&D laboratories.\n\nPhillips Petroleum hired a physicist with some exper ience in laser optics to research the seismic adaption of acoustical holog raphy. As a result\, he stumbled upon a practical method of seismic migrat ion and took a step into the world of Geophysics.\n\nOil exploration succe sses and geophysical milestones were achieved here in Oklahoma.
