DESCRIPTION:Please join us on May 8 for an insightful online presentation o
n advancements in searchable encryption\, presented by Dr. Khosro Salmani.
\n\nSummary: Searchable encryption has emerged as a key cryptographic tech
nology for enabling efficient search over encrypted data while preserving
confidentiality in untrusted environments. In this talk\, I will introduce
the fundamental concepts of searchable encryption methodologies and discu
ss the privacy challenges that have shaped their evolution. The presentati
on will review the historical development of searchable encryption\, highl
ighting how early designs addressed basic functionality and how subsequent
approaches responded to increasingly sophisticated privacy threats\, such
as access-pattern and leakage attacks. I will then present a structured c
lassification of searchable encryption methodologies\, offering a conceptu
al framework that helps clarify existing designs and their privacy trade-o
ffs. This classification aims to strengthen the foundation for reasoning a
bout privacy guarantees and to support the design of more robust and pract
ical schemes. The talk will also touch on emerging directions\, including
usability considerations and the interaction between searchable encryption
and modern data-driven systems. The goal of this talk is to provide an ac
cessible introduction to searchable encryption and its privacy challenges\
, while motivating researchers and practitioners to further explore open p
roblems and contribute to advancing privacy-preserving search technologies
