DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nIn this webinar\, I will introduce the basic concept
s of a novel theory of color perception grounded in quantum information th
eory\, developed since 2018 by Michel Berthier\, Edoardo Provenzi\, and co
llaborators. By reinterpreting the foundational works of Erwin Schrödinge
r and Howard L. Resnikoff from a quantum information perspective\, this fr
amework naturally reconciles trichromacy with Hering’s opponency theory\
, and provides precise definitions of key color attributes such as brightn
ess\, saturation\, and hue. Moreover\, the theory has genuine predictive p
ower: it allows for a quantitative explanation of known perceptual phenome
na and leads to new predictions\, including the existence of uncertainty r
elations for chromatic opponency. Finally\, the model directly yields an e
fficient white balance algorithm.\n\nBio:\nEdoardo Provenzi received the L
aurea degree (equivalent to an M.S.) in Theoretical Physics from Universit
à degli Studi di Milano in 2000\, and the Ph.D. degree in Mathematics and
Applications from Università degli Studi di Genova in 2004. His doctoral
research focused on quantum gravity. He held postdoctoral positions at Un
iversità di Milano\, Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona\, and Téléco
m ParisTech. He joined Université Paris Descartes as an Associate Profess
or in 2014 to 2017 and since 2017 he has been a Full Professor at the Inst
itut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux. Since 2018\, together with Michel Bert
hier (University of La Rochelle)\, he has been developing a novel theory o
f color perception grounded in quantum information theory.\n\nVirtual: htt
