DESCRIPTION:CHEERS OCEANEERS! JUNE 10th 2026\n\nScaling Phytoplankton Obser
vations and Participatory Science at the Ends of the Earth\n\nJoin us to h
ear from Biological Oceanographer and Executive Director Dr. Allison Cusic
k about how she is reimagining the ocean data pipeline by transforming glo
bal sea-going travelers into an active network of climate data collectors.
Driven by a vision to scale oceanographic data collection and bring scien
ce directly to the public\, Allison launched a new 501(c)(3) non-profit\,
Plankton Base. This venture builds directly on the 9-year operational lega
cy of FjordPhyto\, a citizen science program she co-founded and manages. H
 olding a Scripps PhD\, a StartBlue alumnus with a MicroMBA\, and running h
er own consulting LLC\, Allison bridges high-level marine research with ex
pedition tourism and participatory science leadership. Come discover how s
he is expanding this proven framework to build public trust with hands-on
engagement and scaling global ocean stewardship. Her work solves critical
data gaps at the base of the marine food web—powered by phytoplankton\,
the unsung heroes and microscopic engines running our planet\n\n***\n\nWel
come to the monthly event for the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES)\,
San Diego Chapter\, which is hosting this meeting jointly along with TMA
BlueTech (The Maritime Alliance)\, and MTS (Marine Technology Society).\n\
nPlease join us for the main presentation and also plenty of time for netw
orking and friendly conversation about everything oceanic\, engineering\,
science\, Blue Tech\, and more. No need to be an IEEE or OES member\, or T
MA\, or MTS. Everyone is invited.\n\nThis month\, we will be at Quantum Br
 ewing again\, a cool science-themed brewery founded by a biochemist.\n\nNo
ticket required\, but please order something for yourself from the brewer
y.\n\nPlease grab a bite from a nearby restaurant\, which is okay to bring
into the brewery per the owner.\n\nThe food and drinks are not being fund
ed by the hosts. Please open your own tab.\n\nSpeaker(s): Dr. Allison Cusi
 ck\n\nAgenda: \nAgenda:\n\n5:30pm: Arrival and networking\, order food/dri
nks for yourself.\n\n6:15pm: OES and other hosting group announcements.\n\
n6:20pm: Main Presentation\n\n6:40pm (approximately): “open mic” for a
ny other attendees to present anything they like (ocean-related\, of cours
e).\n\nExamples: employers presenting opportunities for employment\, job s
eekers presenting a quick bio\, internship program opportunities\, promoti
ng other events\, seeking funding\, “show and tell” of any cool techno
logy you are working on\, etc.\n\n*For the open mic portion of the event\,
please observe a time-limit of 3 minutes maximum per person. If you want
to give a longer presentation\, please ask to be the main presenter for an
upcoming monthly event.\n\n7:00pm to close: enjoy some drinks and chattin
