DESCRIPTION:The IEEE FUTMinna Robotics Training Program – 3‑Month Found
ations Cohort is an intensive weekly robotics course organized by the IEEE
FUTMinna Student Branch and its prospective IEEE RAS chapter at the Feder
 al University of Technology\, Minna.\nIEEE_FUTMINNA-ROBOTICS-TRAINING.pdf\
n\nThe program is based on our full two‑semester Robotics Training curri
culum\, but this first cohort focuses on the core foundations:\n– Settin
g up the ROS2 development environment on Linux\n– Understanding how robo
 ts model the world (Sense–Think–Act)\nIEEE_RAS_Introductory_Robotics_C
 lass_Material-1-1.pdf\n\n– Coordinate frames\, differential‑drive moti
on\, and basic kinematics\n– Odometry and how robots estimate their posi
tion over time\n– Building and testing simple ROS2 nodes and topics in s
imulation (Gazebo/RViz)\n\nParticipants will meet once every week for abou
t 3 months (≈12 sessions). Each session is a 2–3 hour block with theor
 y\, simulation work\, and discussion\, plus take‑home tasks.\n\nWe desig
ned this first cohort because many students struggle to find structured re
sources and to really understand the mathematics and technical side of rob
otics on their own. This group will be the first generation of trainees wh
o can later help us teach and mentor future cohorts as the program grows.\
n\nEligibility: Open to FUTMinna students from any department with basic p
rogramming experience (Python/C++). Priority will be given to active or pr
ospective IEEE RAS student members.\n\nSchedule: 1 in‑person session per
week for 3 months. Exact day and time will be confirmed with selected par
 ticipants.\n\nCo-sponsored by: Obed Honour Eje\n\nAgenda: \nProgram Agenda
(3‑Month Foundations Cohort)\n\n– Build a clear understanding of what
a robot is and how it follows the Sense–Think–Act loop.\n– Learn to
set up a proper ROS2 development environment on Linux and use the basic t
 ools (nodes\, topics\, packages\, launch files\, Gazebo\, RViz).\n– Unde
rstand the mathematics behind robot motion: coordinate frames\, differenti
 al‑drive motion models\, and basic kinematics.\n– Implement odometry i
n ROS2 and see practically how drift appears and why it matters.\n– Work
with simple sensor data in simulation to build a basic model of the robot
 ’s surroundings.\n– Complete a small team mini‑project that connects
all these ideas into one working ROS2 simulation demo.\n\nBldg: Codel\, P
