 e second or third contributor to published research in the various fields 
 of the power electronics technology. After China\, she competes with the U
 nited States for the second position. Without doubt she generates the seco
 nd largest number of conference and journal papers every year. The Indian 
 Institute of Technology departments of Electrical Engineering\, especially
  the older ones\, each has a\nsignificant number of professors in the fiel
 d second to China.\n\nIn terms of research content\, Indian researchers ar
 e leaders\, not only in the analytical arenas\, but also in experimental r
 esearch\, which\nstrategically makes their research potentially industrial
 ly relevant and nationally impactful.\n\nDespite these enviable achievemen
 ts\, the international dividends of the various Indian research and educat
 ional contributions to the field of\nPower Electronics are not commensurat
 e. Relative to the population and research paper publications generated\, 
 India produces relatively few\nresident Indian IEEE Fellows every year\, w
 ins few paper awards.\n\nIndia’s representation is sparse on the high ed
 itorial boards and various society boards. Their graduate students are not
  very active participants in the relevant IEEE societies.\n\nThis discussi
 ve presentation is essentially a perspective of an outsider-observer and a
 n attempt to motivate professors and graduate students to get more involve
 d in the international activities of the power electronics profession and 
 community\, and thus access the dividends already earned\, but unclaimed b
 y an agnostic posture towards international participation.\n\nThe balance 
 of the talk will address emerging areas of research and education to prope
 rly situate the field of power electronics for greater\nrelevance in India

 aker&#39;s Biography: Prof. Joseph Ojo Olorunfemi (Life Fellow\, IEEE) is Chai
 r Professor at the Center for Energy Systems Research (CESR)\,\nTennessee 
 Tech University\, Cookeville\, Tennessee\, USA. He received his bachelor&#39;s
  and master&#39;s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello Universi
 ty\, Zaria\, Nigeria\, and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineerin
 g from the University of Wisconsin–Madison\, USA.\nProf. Olorunfemi bega
 n his academic career as a Lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University\, Nigeria\,
  and has since established an internationally\nrecognized career in electr
 ical engineering. He has held several visiting and honorary professorships
  across different continents and is\na Fellow of the Institution of Engine
 ering and Technology (IET\, U.K.)\, a Life Fellow of IEEE\, a Fellow of th
 e Nigerian Academy of Science\, and a\nFellow of the Nigerian Academy of E
 ngineering. His research interests encompass electric machine analysis and
  drive control\, power electronic converters\, switching converter technol
 ogy\, converter-enabled power systems\, distributed energy generation\, an
 d advanced control applications.\n\nProf. Olorunfemi has made outstanding 
 contributions to the IEEE Power Electronics and Industry Applications comm
 unities through several\ndistinguished leadership roles. He served as Chai
 r of the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Industrial Power Convert
 er Systems Department\, was a Member of the IEEE IAS Board\, and served as
  the Technical Program Chair of the 2023 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress a
 nd Exposition (ECCE 2023). He has also provided exceptional editorial lead
 ership for leading IEEE journals. He served for more than two decades as a
 n Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics\, later b
 ecoming the Deputy Editor-in-Chief during the establishment of the IEEE Jo
 urnal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE). Subse
 quently\, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE JESTPE and currently co
 ntinues to serve the journal as an Editor. He has additionally served as a
 n Associate Editor for the IET Journal of Power Electronics and the IET Jo
 urnal of Electric Power Applications. Prof. Olorunfemi is internationally 
 recognized for his pioneering contributions to electric machines\, motor d
 rives\, power electronics\, and renewable energy systems\, and continues t
