DESCRIPTION:This preliminary program is being published as an early save-th
e-date. Speaker\, presentation\, and agenda information will be updated as
participants are confirmed.\n\nThis IEEE Region 5 Learning Exchange will
explore how mentorship\, robotics\, artificial intelligence\, and engineer
ing ethics can be connected to prepare students and professionals for resp
onsible innovation. The event is being held during the inaugural IEEE Ethi
cs Week\, September 12–20\, 2026.\n\n[]\n\nJohn Purvis will open with le
ssons from his elementary-school outreach and group-mentoring activities.
Following his presentation\, participants will discuss how engineers can b
uild trust\, encourage curiosity\, and help young learners develop respons
ible technology habits.\n\nThe exchange will also examine educational robo
tics and ethical questions associated with AI-enabled and autonomous syste
ms. Potential discussion topics include human oversight\, safety\, account
ability\, privacy\, bias\, electric-vehicle decision-making\, battery life
cycle responsibilities\, and equitable access to emerging technologies.\n\
nUniversity perspectives\, including examples from the University of Centr
al Arkansas AI\, Robotics & Ethics Camp\, are being coordinated. Event inf
ormation will be updated as additional participants are confirmed.\n\nThe
tentative format includes presentations of approximately 15-20 minutes eac
h\, followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience questions.\n\nIE
EE members\, educators\, students\, parents\, STEM volunteers\, and profes
sionals working in robotics\, artificial intelligence\, electric vehicles\
, and related fields are encouraged to attend.\n\nSpeaker(s): John Purvis\
, Will Slayton\, Lucy Talley\n\nAgenda: \nTentative Agenda\n\n6:00–6:05
p.m. — Welcome\, introductions\, and IEEE Ethics Week context\n\n6:05–
6:20 p.m. — John Purvis from Central Texas Section: Elementary-school ou
