 lectrical Engineer\n\nThis industry lecture will take students on a practi
 cal journey from the university classroom into the engineering profession\
 , exploring how electrical engineering has evolved over the past decade an
 d why it remains one of the most exciting and relevant career fields for t
 he next generation.\n\nThe session will explore how advances in digitalisa
 tion\, automation\, renewable energy\, intelligent control systems\, power
 -system technologies and data-driven engineering are changing the way engi
 neers design\, operate and manage electrical systems. Students will gain p
 erspective on how the electrical engineering profession is expanding beyon
 d traditional technical disciplines and increasingly requires engineers wh
 o can combine technical expertise with technology\, innovation\, problem-s
 olving\, project management\, and leadership.\n\nA key focus will be the t
 ransition from engineering theory to practical industry application. Using
  real-world engineering experience\, the lecture will demonstrate how univ
 ersity fundamentals form the foundation for solving complex engineering pr
 oblems in industry. A practical case study will be drawn from the 10 MW Lo
 ad Commutated Inverter (LCI) drive and synchronous motor upgrade project\,
  which involved design\, project leadership\, OEM collaboration and commis
 sioning.\n\nThe session will also explore the journey from graduate engine
 er to professionally registered engineer\, including the importance of gai
 ning meaningful engineering experience\, developing engineering judgement\
 , maintaining professional competence\, and pursuing additional qualificat
 ions such as the Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) where applicab
 le.\n\nBeyond technical competence\, students will be encouraged to consid
 er the broader dimensions of an engineering career—leadership\, communic
 ation\, stakeholder management\, project delivery\, continuous learning an
 d professional contribution. The role of voluntary professional associatio
 ns such as the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) wil
 l be highlighted as platforms for networking\, mentorship\, leadership dev
 elopment and contributing to the growth of the engineering profession.\n\n
 The lecture will conclude by challenging students to think beyond simply o
 btaining an engineering degree. The message will be that the degree opens 
 the door\, but practical experience\, continuous learning\, professional d
