DESCRIPTION:The Queensland Chapter of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Sys
tems Society is pleased to host a one-day short course by Dr Lorenzo Lo Mo
nte.\n\nTitle: Modern Aspects of RF Electronic Warfare\n\nPresenter: Dr Lo
renzo Lo Monte\, Chief Scientist\, TTM Technologies\; IEEE AESS President-
 Elect ([bio](https://ieee-aess.org/contact/lorenzo-lo-monte))\n\nDate: Mon
day 23 November 2026\n\nVenue: Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre\,
  [room TBC]\n\n- 8:00 am — Registration and coffee\n- 8:30 am — Course
commences\n- 3:00 pm — Close\n\nElectronic warfare is central to modern
military operations\, where control of the electromagnetic spectrum can d
 etermine detection\, survivability\, command-and-control\, and mission suc
cess. EW is most often pictured as Suppression of Enemy Air Defences — a
ircraft penetrating defended airspace\, ground radars jammed and protected
. That mission remains\, but it is no longer the whole picture. EW now rea
ches into satellite systems and space-based sensing\, acts as a weapon in
its own right through high-power microwave\, denies communications and pos
itioning\, navigation and timing\, and has become central to the counter-d
rone fight. This course gives a high-level but operationally relevant over
view of these expanding mission areas across the air\, land\, sea\, space\
, and cyber-enabled battlespaces. A basic knowledge of radar is assumed.\n
 \nAgenda\n\n- High-power microwave and nuclear EMP — directed-energy and
  electromagnetic-pulse effects on electronics\, infrastructure\, and platf
orms\, including employment against ISR and air-defence radars\, and impli
cations for mission resilience.\n- Space\, communications\, and GNSS EW
 — contesting SATCOM\, datalinks\, PNT and space-enabled networks through
  jamming\, spoofing\, meaconing and navigation warfare\, including space-b
ased radars as targets of electronic attack.\n- Counter-UAS EW — detecti
ng\, tracking and identifying drone threats using RF sensing (including ra
dar)\, and defeating them through RF means: jamming\, GNSS denial and spoo
 fing\, and high-power microwave.\n\nRegistration (AUD\, inc GST)\n\nEarly
 bird (to 16 Oct)\n\nStandard\n\nIEEE member\n\n$240\n\n$300\n\nNon-member\
 n\n$320\n\n$400\n\nStudent IEEE member\n\n$100\n\n$125\n\nStudent non-memb
 er\n\n$140\n\n$175\n\nIncludes morning tea\, lunch and course notes.\n\nKe
 y dates\n\n- Early-bird registration closes: Friday 16 October 2026\n- Reg
