DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\nThis event is proudly brought to you as a collabora
tion between Engineers Australia Biomedical College\, IEEE Engineering in
Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS)\, the Society for Medical and Biologic
al Engineering NSW (SMBE NSW) and Standards Australia. Registration for th
is event is free for current members of any of these partner organisations
.\n\nBiomedical engineering operates within a complex environment of regul
atory requirements\, quality systems and technical standards. Whether deve
loping innovative medical technologies\, managing healthcare equipment or
translating research into commercial products\, engineers need a strong un
derstanding of how standards influence practice.\n\nThis full-day event wi
ll introduce participants to the role of standards in biomedical engineeri
ng and provide perspectives from academia\, healthcare\, industry and Stan
dards Australia. Presentations and panel discussions will explore standard
s development\, implementation challenges and their application across res
earch and industry environments.\n\nParticipants will gain practical insig
hts into ISO 13485 and AS/NZS 3551 and take part in a hands-on workshop us
ing real medical devices and assessment tools. The event is designed to he
lp engineers build confidence in applying standards throughout the lifecyc
 le of medical technologies.\n\nLearning outcomes\n\nIn this presentation\,
you will learn:\n\n- how standards support quality\, safety and regulator
y compliance within biomedical engineering\n- the role of Standards Austra
lia and the process used to develop and maintain standards\n- how ISO 1348
5 and AS/NZS 3551 are applied in medical device design\, management and co
mmercialisation\n- practical methods for applying AS/NZS 3551 through hand
s-on evaluation of medical devices and equipment.\n\nWho should attend?\n\
nThis event is suited to engineering students\, researchers and academics
with a view to commercialise their work and early career biomedical engine
ers with limited familiarity with applying Standards.\n\nCo-sponsored by:
Society of Medical and Biological Engineering Australia\, IEEE Consumer Te
 chnologies Society NSW Chapter\n\nAgenda: \nProgram\n\nIn-person:\n\n- 9.0
