DESCRIPTION:Welcome to IEEE Seminar on “Future energy system with focus o
n grids in distribution and wind power”\n\nby Fredrik Carlsson\, R&D por
tfolio manager\, Distribution\, Vattenfall\, and Catalina Buitrago\, R&D P
ower Systems Engineer\, Vattenfall\n\nAbstract:\n\nThe electric energy sys
tem is transforming and expanding. Solar and wind power dominates the new
production and data centres\, chargers for electric transportation\, energ
y storages and hydrogen production for material production are the new ele
ctric customers . The future grid needs will be based on the old system bu
t expanded\, with digital and smarter functionality. These new parts of th
e grid\, we will go into and show how we do R&D in these areas.\n\nAs we l
ook toward the future\, offshore wind is becoming a key pillar in building
resilient\, renewable power grids. Large-scale offshore wind farms have t
he potential to make a significant impact on the future development of pow
er systems. However\, the realization of this potential depends not only o
n technological advancements but also on the development of analysis tools
that help us to better understand\, design\, and optimize these complex p
ower systems. In this presentation\, we will show you how in Vattenfall R&
D we develop different power system analysis tools that can cope with the
level of complexity and uncertainty in early-stage of offshore wind projec
ts development.\n\nBios of Speakers\n\nFredrik Carlsson was born in Stockh
olm\, Sweden\, on January 17\, 1974. He wrote his master thesis in 1998 in
the field of "models of electric actuators for railway vehicles"\, which
was entitled the best master thesis in railway techniques by Swedtrain. He
received his M.Sc. degree 1999 in Electrical Engineering from KTH\, Royal
Institute of Technology in Stockholm\, Sweden. He got his Ph.D. degree in
January 2004 with the title "On impacts and ride-through of voltage sags
exposing line-operated AC-machines". He has then worked as a researcher at
the department of Electrical engineering\, KTH\, Stockholm\, Sweden. Rese
arch was done in the fields of diagnostics\, traction applications\, and h
ybrid vehicles. At 2008\, he started working as a senior R&D engineer at V
attenfall Research & Development with smart grids\, power quality\, wind p
ower\, asset management\, transformer monitoring and electricity market. S
ince 2015 until present he is heading the R&D portfolio for Distribution.\
n\nCatalina Buitrago was born in Bogotá\, Colombia\, on September 27\, 19
95. She has a B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering in 2017 and a B.Sc. in Elect
rical Engineering in 2018\, both from the University of Los Andes\, Colomb
ia. After graduation\, she worked as an Electrical Engineer Associate\, fo
cusing on protective device coordination and arc-flash studies for the des
ign of Oil and Gas facilities. In 2020\, she was awarded an Erasmus Mundus
Scholarship to pursue an M.Sc. in Decentralised Smart Energy Systems at U
niversité de Lorraine in Nancy\, France\, and KTH Royal Institute of Tech
nology in Stockholm\, Sweden. Since 2022\, she has been working as an R&D
Power Systems Engineer at Vattenfall in Stockholm\, Sweden. Catalina is cu
rrently Product Owner of the Offshore Power Technology team in R&D\, leadi
ng the development of electrical engineering solutions for offshore wind f
arms. She has also been involved in the development of standardized tools
for power system studies\, protection system analysis\, offshore substatio
n design optimization\, and the advancement of efficient and reliable elec
trical infrastructure for Vattenfall's offshore wind farms.\n\nRoom: room
