DESCRIPTION:This tutorial presents the principles\, methods\, and emerging 
 technologies associated with microwave thermal ablation (MTA)\, a therapeu
 tic technique used for the in-situ destruction of malignant tissue.\n\nThe
  first part introduces microwave thermal ablation and current technologies
  for treatment guidance\, monitoring\, and post-procedure outcome assessme
 nt\, with particular attention to challenges associated with real-time fee
 dback and reliable control of the ablation zone.\n\nThe tutorial then exam
 ines the dielectric properties of biological tissues and their role in mic
 rowave-tissue interactions. Topics include the frequency dependence of die
 lectric properties\, their variation during thermal ablation\, and methods
  for dielectric characterization\, with particular emphasis on the open-en
 ded coaxial probe technique. The relevance of dielectric properties to app
 licator design\, numerical modeling\, treatment planning\, and ablation-zo
 ne prediction is also discussed.\n\nFinally\, an emerging approach is pres
 ented in which the microwave ablation applicator is used not only for ener
 gy delivery but also as a sensing device for in-situ dielectric spectrosco
 py. This approach has the potential to support real-time tissue monitoring
 \, ablation-zone estimation\, and the development of smarter\, feedback-co
