DESCRIPTION:The European power system is being reshaped by a rapid build-ou
t of wind and solar\, and by the market and support mechanisms that steer
where and when that capacity arrives. Renewable auctions determine much of
the investment\, while the wholesale market and network determine what th
e system can actually absorb\, and the two are designed largely in isolati
on. This seminar looks at how large-scale optimization models of the pan-E
uropean power system can bridge that gap. It covers the modelling tools us
ed to represent European markets and networks\, how auction design can be
evaluated within them\, and what such models reveal about system costs\, c
ongestion\, and the distribution of effects across Member States. The talk
closes with reflections on the practical limits of continental-scale mode
lling and on the role of open models and data in supporting EU energy poli
 cy.\n\n[]\n\nRoom: ELEC B91.100\, Bldg: ESAT\, ESAT\, Kasteelpark Arenberg
