DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by IEEE Pikes Peak Section and its affiliated Power&E
nergy Society Chapter. Meeting Location: Room W101\, Pikes Peak Community
College Rampart Range Campus 11195 Highway 83\, Colorado Springs\, CO 8092
1 (http://www.ppcc.edu/about-ppcc/campus-mapsdirections/rampart-range) Dr.
Bruce Johnson\, Chief Technology Officer of American Electric Vehicles (h
ttp://www.aevehicles.com/)\, will be discussing a new electric bus that ha
s been designed at their corporate headquarters located in Palmer Lake\, C
olorado. The target market for this bus is US-based private fleets that cu
rrently use cutaway shuttle buses. AEV's bus is 100% battery-powered. The
company's first prototype is currently on tour in Australia and has alread
y generated considerable interest in a number of countries\, including Chi
na and India. Dr. Johnson will cover a number of topics\, including compar
isons between vehicles powered by electric motors vs. internal combustion
engines\, the battery technology used by their bus\, some of the engineeri
ng tradeoffs that were made in their design\, how the physical appearance
of their bus came about\, future trends in battery-powered transportation\
, and other topics guaranteed to stimulate the interest and imagination of
both engineers and non-engineers alike. Free pizza/drink will be served t
o IEEE members and will also be available to non-members for $5 (non-membe
rs are welcome to skip the pizza and attend the meeting free of charge). P
lease register online if you will attend the seminar. If you are not a mem
ber leave the Member Number field near the top blank. Please indicate at t
