The tour was conceptualized during the inaugural of C AS/EDS Chapter during which the director of RCI\, Dr. G. Sateesh Reddy was invited to give a guest lecture. Dr. Sateesh Reddy facilitated the tour f or 25 IEEE members to RCI. A total of 58 members had applied to attend the tour out of which 25 were shortlisted\, the team consisted of 4 industry professionals\, 7 Faculty members and 14 students. The registration fee wa s Rs.200 per person. Mr. Mohammed Arifuddin Sohel\, Treasurer\, CAS/EDS ch apter was the tour incharge. The tour started at 8.00AM from campus of MJC ET at Banjara Hills\, Road no 3\, Hyderabad. The bus reached RCI at 9.30 A M and after a through security check the participant had to leave all cell phones and all electronic gadgets at the security gate itself. The team w as received by Dr. A. Thomas Jayaseelan\, Sc. ‘E’ and Incharg e of Visits and Exposition Hall. We were taken to the Hall of Missile tech nology at 10.AM. Dr. Thomas gave a one hour presentation about Missile Lab s of DRDO of which RCI is one. He briefed about the various missiles devel oped by RCI and also gave a detailed description of various parts of a mis sile. He elaborated on missile subsystems like propulsion\, payload\, navi gation\, on board computers and control systems. Finally he discussed abou t the various achievements of RCI and closed his talk by inviting the youn g students to join RCI as scientist and take part in the nation building e xercise. There was a tea break from 11.00 AM to 11.15 AM. A 10 minute vide o was played in which the participants were briefed about the testing of m issiles and interception of enemy missiles in endo and exo atmospheric lev els. The members had an opportunity to see the models of missiles like NAG \, Trishul\, Akash\, Prithvi and Agni and their internal parts. The member s were then taken to two work centers of RCI. The first center was inertia l systems lab of the navigational and embedded computers complex. The part icipants were taken to clean room 10000. They had to go through the air sh ower before entering the clean room. The equipment for calibration of gyro s\, with 3 and 5 axes rotation were demonstrated by Dr. G. Vasudevan\, inc harge of the lab. The next lab where the team visited was the systems inte gration lab\, where various parts of the missile are brought for final ass embly. Dr. T. Mallikarjun Rao\, Head integration lab gave a detailed descr iption of assembling of missiles and their launching mechanisms. The scien tists at RCI were very patient and responded to all queries of the partici pants.
