“What a Crazy Idea!”
Abstract: Does nobody love your ideas? Does everybody hate them? Are you eating worms? How do we react when individuals from underrepresented groups innovate? How do we stop them? Crazy Ideas is an innovation and inclusion strategy I started in 2016. It is an infrastructure designed to encourage people to overcome barriers and share their ideas with others. This might just be some crazy idea of mine, and it might not survive, but I have more ideas brewing. I know there are other people thinking the same way. The time has come. Do you want to hear about my long, slow walk?
Biography:
Catherine is a computer systems engineer with a PhD in Physics and a degree in visual arts. Throughout her career she has gravitated towards problems with a high degree of systemic or algorithmic complexity. Two years ago she started a company, The Venus Framework Group, to investigate the mechanisms of structural violence through research, modelling and simulation. For the last 10 years she has been working very quietly in the South Australian defence industry. She is an IEEE member and a member of the IEEE-SA section WIE Affinity Group.
