Great turn out for our last meeting!  See you Wednesday evening.
Our September meeting of the Central Georgia section of the IEEE will be a presentation on lead acid batteries.  We will meet in Mercer University Science and Engineering building (SEB) room 201 on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, 6:29 PM.

Steve and Brandi Scasta of Interstate batteries will talk about lead acid batteries.  Steve and Brandi are owners of Interstate Batteries of Greater Georgia, the exclusive wholesale distributor for Interstate Batteries in Central Georgia. Steve’s battery background includes more than five years at the Interstate Batteries corporate office in Dallas TX.  Steve’s presentation provides a basic overview of SLI (Starting/Lighting/Ignition) batteries, both traditional flooded batteries and emerging AGM technology which is gaining in popularity today.  He will cover cold cranking amps, reserve capacity, and amp hours.  Interstate takes pride in its product and considers it the best. Interstate Battery is a private Dallas TX company and one of the largest car battery sellers in the US.

The lead acid battery has been around since 1859 and is the workhorse of stored energy.    The US battery market was $61.74 billion in 2018, with expected market growth of 5.4%.  The estimate lead acid battery market for 2026 is $95.32 billion.  Lead acid batteries are rechargeable, converting chemical energy into electrical energy.   With the growth of UPS systems and electric vehicles, battery use continues to increase.  Automotive, healthcare, power, and telecom industries in developing nations also encourage market growth.  Lead batteries offer considerable cost savings over other batteries types.  The lead acid battery is the most used battery type.

After the meeting, we will have dinner at Margaritas in the Mercer Village.
