General Meeting and 2020 Officer Nominations
The IEEE Consultants' Network of San Diego has been an advocate for the independent technical technical workers for more that 25 years. The network has been serving members throughout years of high and low members’ participation.
Typically business cycles dictate how many people are interested in technical consulting. It is no secret that at the current levels of employment, the number of independent consultants in San Diego has decreased in the past number of years. These trends are mirrored in the active members of the Consultant’s Network. And this trend is not specific to San Diego, and occurs throughout our sister networks in other cities.
The network strives to produce events throughout the year that are relevant to our members. San Diego’s IEEE Consultant’s Network has always been very active. In the past 10 years we typically did 14 events per calendar year. This year due to some scheduling conflicts we still did 12 events.
2020 will be a year of challenges for the network. We need new and innovative ideas to keep the interest of the members and to grow the network. We believe that the need for technical consultants will never disappear and the network can offer resources for those how want to build consulting companies in San Diego.
Our November 2019 meeting will be solely dedicated to discussing the future of the network. As an all volunteer organization 2019 proved to be a challenge for the current leadership. We believe that the situation will become more pronounced in 2020. We also believe that the best remedy for the network is to allow new leadership to keep the Consultant’s Network serving our community. Therefore, current leadership will be transitioning out at the end of 2019. We need two or three people who can pick up the reigns and take the network forward.
IEEE San Diego Section will be offering support to the new leadership team and will offer leadership training at the beginning of 2020. We also already have some event planning underway for 2020, so a lot of the effort of keeping the network functioning is not a major undertaking. However each member of the leadership team will have the opportunity to build the organization and their contributions will make a difference both for IEEE and the Network membership.
Please come to the meeting on the 11th with your ideas and ideas of how you can help and what you can offer to build the network as it moves into the next decade.
