Entering Cybersecurity with No Technical Background - What to Expect & How To Do It
This session of Careers in Tech - Virtual Seminar Series will provide guidance and information on how to get into Cybersecurity from the very start.
Biography:
Marie Perry is a student in the Bachelor of Applied Science Program for Cybersecurity at Pensacola State College (PSC) and is currently an intern for Navy Federal Credit Union's cybersecurity internship program.
Marie's path toward cybersecurity is an interesting one, with challenges abound as laid out in this PSC article. https://www.pensacolastate.edu/cybersecurity-student-leaves-troubled-past-for-a-bright-future-with-help-from-psc/
Her recommendation to people wanting to break into the field of cybersecurity, especially as a second career? Networking.
Marie landed her current internship with Navy Federal by making a name for herself through previous internships with IT Gulf Coast and the Escambia County School Board, and through work with Ascension Sacred Heart. She has also attended the ITENWired conference hosted on Pensacola Beach and recommends that others studying in cybersecurity do the same.
As President for the WiCyS Florida Affiliate and President of the WiCyS Student Chapter at Pensacola State College, both an affiliate in its infancy, Marie hopes to help build an organization that all women working or studying cybersecurity in Florida can benefit from.
"Don't take No for an answer easily; Be persistent and thorough." -Marie Perry, President, WiCyS Florida Affiliate
