We'd like to announce the first second third Tuesday Thursday of the Month Journal Club for September. We will be hosting it again at the German Club, meeting at 5:30pm on 17th September, hopefully discussing the paper at or after 6pm.

This month Andy Ferris will present the following paper, which is about an alternative approach to GANs for image generation:

"Generative Modeling by Estimating Gradients of the Data Distribution"
Yang Song and Stefano Ermon

What initially got me excited about this paper was this blog article, where I learnt they use some of favourite tricks like Monte Carlo, Langevin dynamics and simulated annealing - but this time to do machine learning :) This might be a friendlier to read first as an introduction to the idea:

Hope to see you there!
