Topic:

Experiments of DC Human Body Resistance II

This paper describes the second phase of an experimental investigation into DC human body resistance conducted by the authors. 25 women and 27 men participated as test subjects for this work, each completing two iterations of a set of three measurements. These measurements evaluated the hand-to-feet and hand-to-hand current pathways under both dry and wet (simulated sweat) conditions. At each test condition at each test voltage the data were found to follow a log-normal distribution. Percentile results are calculated based on the fitted log-normal distribution and compared to the IEC 60479-1 body resistance data. It is found that the measured body resistance values in this work were higher than the IEC values, though this may be attributed to differences in the skin contact interface (conditions of which are not fully disclosed in IEC 60479-1). Female volunteers exhibited body current values on average 70-75% than the average values for male volunteers and are likely attributable to differences in average body mass rather than some gender-specific cause.
