Lock Talk, an initiative of IEEE CS GCET SBC is a webinar series in collaboration with 7 other IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapters to promote learning in lockdown. There were 7 series of webinars conducted that focussed on various tracks. The resource persons according to their area of expertise have been on a platform to share their knowledge. 

Summary:

  • This was the fifth webinar under Lock Talk Series.
  • The resource person has given the outline of information about analytics starting from why analytics to the sources of certifications to get started.
  • Analytics has 4 Billion connected people, $4 trillion revenue opportunity. 
  • It also holds the larger role in the digital space with 25+ Million apps, 25+ Billion Embedded and Intelligent Systems, 50 Trillion GB’s of Data.
  • The speaker has depicted the comparison of flow of the task in the real world to the analytical world.
  • In the real world as we know it goes as:
    • Observation
    • Mental Model
    • Decision
  • In a similar way, the flow of the analytical world goes as:
    • Data
    • Mathematical Model
    • Decision
  • Analytics includes Data Science that is an amalgamation of statistics, data mining and machine learning.
  • It also considers Decision Science which includes Optimization, Decision Analysis and Simulation.  
  • The webinar also included information about Jobs in Analytics such as:
    • Data Scientist or Analyst-liaison between the leadership and Data Science specialist.
    • Business Intelligence Architect or Business Analyst- Build system architectures, Link IT Systems, etc.,
    • Machine Learning or AI Scientist-Creativity, Excel in programming, Distributed Computing.
    • Data Visualization Developer-Work Collaboratively, Excel in visualization software(Tableau).
  • Some of the certifications that can help the students who want to emerge in the domain of analytics:
    • MCSE Business Intelligence Certificate-Microsoft Certified Solution Expert
    • Cloudera Certified Professional-CCP, CCDH, CCAH, CCSHB
    • EMC Data Science Associate-EMCDCA, EMCCA
    • SAS Certified Data Scientist-presentations are communication tools that can lecture.
    • Oracle Business Intelligence Certificate-OBI
