Communications and Computer Societies Joint Chapter, ITR Chandipur


This is the fourth webinar, which will be organized by the Communications and Computer Societies Joint Chapter - Ch10943 in association with ITR Chandipur (DRDO). Speaker will deliver a technical talk on the Foundational Aspect of Blockchain Security. The talk will introduce and discuss cryptographic primitives and consensus algorithms used in blockchains. She will then discuss various attacks on popular proof of work-based blockchains. At the end with some privacy concerns in blockchains and possible mitigations.

Foundational Aspect of Blockchain Security & Privacy

Blockchain is a verifiable immutable distributed ledger. The talk will introduce and discuss cryptographic primitives and consensus algorithms used in blockchains.

Biography:

: Sushmita Ruj is Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Data61 and an Associate Professor at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. She received her B.E. degree from Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, India and Masters and Ph.D. from Indian Statistical Institute, India, all in Computer Science. She was an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Indore. She was a visiting researcher/faculty at UNSW, Sydney, NTU, Singapore, KDDI R&D Labs, Japan, University of Wollongong, Australia, INRIA, France, Kyushu University, Japan and intern at Microsoft Research Labs, India.

 

Her research interests are in applied cryptography, security, and privacy. She is currently working on blockchains, cryptocurrencies, data privacy, cloud security.    Sushmita served as PC Co-Chair for Indocrypt 2019 and will serve as PC Co-chair ACISP 2021 and founding member of AsisCCS workshop series Blockchains, Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (BCC).  She won the best paper awards at ISPA 2007,  IEEE PIMRC 2011, and IEEE ANTS WIE'17. She received the Samsung GRO award, NetApp Faculty Fellowship Cisco University Research Grant, OCSP grant from IBM Research, India. Sushmita is a Senior Member of ACM and IEEE.
