Webex meeting and Learn: IEEE INITIATIVE ON PRIVACY AND SECURITY USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY
The Denver Section would like to invite you to join us for the latest presentation in our Meeting and Learn series!
Come join your fellow IEEE members and local engineers for a fun-filled evening of networking, while we discover exciting new innovations in technology. Once a month one of your local Denver IEEE Societies will host the event and bring in a unique speaker related to their field to present. This provides you, our members, with a unique opportunity to explore and learn about exciting new technologies being developed around you. Early on in the evening, you’ll also have ample opportunity to mingle with your fellow engineers and colleagues delving into a broad range of technical expertise.
If there is a specific speaker or topic you find interesting please let us know and we will try to accommodate it in the schedule.

Meeting and Learn : IEEE INITIATIVE ON PRIVACY AND SECURITY USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY
Blockchain is more than cryptocurrency, it is a technological foundation to a new way of conducting transactions, securing networks, and recording the validity and origin of data. Blockchain will allow a new perspective on how humans interact with society's challenges; touching upon everything from conducting financial transactions, energy trading, carbon emission trading, access to healthcare records, to the protection of the valued assets of corporations and nation-states. IEEE Blockchain is currently exploring the application of blockchain and related technologies across several verticals and aims to address the many challenges and opportunities that arise.
Blockchain technologies have shown exceptional value for distributed operations involving individualized control of digital assets, and provide exceptional promise to improve privacy and security. The IEEE Blockchain Initiative will explore the use of blockchains for alignment of common compliance requirements such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and best practices from leading industry methods. The primary objective will be to provide privacy and security for individual citizens distributed across the digital world. Blockchains could provide a new paradigm where individualized privacy and security controls will allow every individual creator/owner to maintain control over their data assets.
This presentation will focus on Privacy and Security. One of the most critical and challenging issues of the technological era is the protection of private and sensitive data and physical computing assets. IEEE is exploring the use of blockchain distributed ledger applications to implement global privacy and security solutions. The use of blockchains to integrate these goals will revolutionize privacy and security, and enable practices to be uniformly distributed and applied across different organizations, applications, and industries. Potential benefits include the ability to individualize privacy controls for data creators, to create uniform security controls for distributed physical and digital assets, to appropriately balance data privacy and transparency, and to manage logistics for audit and compliance with regulations such as GDPR.
The IEEE Blockchain Initiative will address this rapidly evolving area to leverage the momentum in existing community projects, and efforts started by socially-responsible legislation and regulations.
Through podcasts, virtual keynotes, and industry forums, digitally-curated poster competitions, globally-connected collaborations on standards, and publications, the Initiative will deliver actionable discussions concerning all aspects of security and privacy. This forum will support and contribute to community development and public working groups worldwide to implement forward-looking prototypes, proof-of-concept platforms, and actionable recommendations.
