The IEEE QLD joint chapter for Control Systems/ Robotics and Automation Societies is co-hosting Associate Professor Dan Kim of The University of Queensland at CSIRO's QCAT for a guest lecture. The details are below.

Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce four main research topics I have been working on summarized as GAME (Graphical security models, AI security, Moving Target Defense, and Evolving attacks & defense automation/evaluation). First, recent advances in graphical security models (attack graphs, attack trees, HARMs) and metrics will be introduced with their applications. Second, security attacks to AI (ML/DL) systems and their general defense techniques will be briefly introduced and my focus areas on AI security (Intrusion Detection System) will be introduced. Third, moving target defense (MTD), which is a promising proactive defense technique, will be introduced with its 3 dimensions (what, when, how to move) and some research issues. Finally, how graphical security models, measurement, metrics, and AI planning techniques can be effectively adopted to enable cyber-attack and defense automation and evaluation.

Biography: Dr Dan Dongseong Kim is an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland, Australia since Jan 2019. Prior to UQ, he was a Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity at the University of Canterbury (UC), Christchurch, New Zealand from August 2011 to December 2018. From June 2008 to July 2011, Dr Kim was a postdoc in Hudson Chaired Prof. Kishor S. Trivedi (IEEE fellow, the IEEE 2008 Technical Achievement Award recipient)’s research group at Duke University, North Carolina in the US. He worked on Metrics, Models, and Analysis of Network Security funded by the US NSF and Performability Analysis of Cloud Computing funded by the IBM T.J. Watson and NEC Japan, respectively. He was a visiting scholar in Prof. Virgil D. Gligor (currently with the Carnegie Mellon University in the US, former ACM SIGSAC chair, the IEEE 2013 Technical Achievement Award Recipient)'s Security research group at the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland in the US in 2007. Dr. Kim’s research was supported by the New Zealand’s MBIE, the Qatar National Research Fund, the US Army Research Lab, ITC-PAC, and the Agency for Defense Development in South Korea. His research interests are in cybersecurity and privacy.
