Introduction to Battery Energy Storage Systems and Applications
To reduce our carbon footprint, massive deployment of renewable energy sources has become mandatory. This requires grid-tied energy storage systems to balance energy production and consumption demands. Efficient and economic energy storage can bring an improvement in the reliability and stability of the power system by providing stable, abundant energy reserves. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are rapidly spreading for stationary applications. In this discussion, we will lay the foundation of the Battery Energy Storage System, the battery operational characteristics, the system boundaries, and a few of the applications.
