Webex meeting and Learn: IEEE HAC and SIGHT COVID 19 PROJECTS
This presentation will focus on projects under the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) and IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) that have been instrumental for COVID-19 response. Starting March 2020, as the pandemic affected the world in an unprecedented manner, IEEE HAC & SIGHT have been supporting IEEE member grassroots humanitarian technology and sustainable development projects that utilize technology to address the COVID-19 situation. This presentation will focus on some of the projects that have been solving challenges in healthcare, as well as improving exacerbated poverty and systemic inequalities throughout the world, These projects have prioritized immediate impact, poverty mitigation and inequality reduction in various focus areas.

This presentation will focus on projects under the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) and IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) that have been instrumental for COVID-19 response. Biography:
Hassaan Idrees is an electrical engineer at Jacobs Engineering in Denver, Colorado. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology, and Arizona State University, respectively. An active IEEE member since 2009, Hassaan has volunteered at different levels and geographies within IEEE: as PES Region 10 Young Professional Activities Coordinator, as GHTC Technical Committee member in Region 6, as SAC Coordinator for Region 10, as SIGHT Chapter Lead, as Section Student Representative, as IEEE’s Center for Leadership Excellence member, as Humanitarian Activities Committee member for Projects and Assessments committees, and as a member for the IEEE P825 standard working group on transactive energy. He has worked in industries spanning oil and gas, electric utilities, water and wastewater, and fast-moving consumer goods. As a Fulbright scholar at Arizona State, he served as the vice president of the Engineers Without Borders’ chapter, working in engineering development projects in the Navajo Nation, and for international projects in Kenya and India. He has been serving as the Professional Development Lead for the CIGRE U.S. Next Gen Network since 2019. His work in different projects around the world, including that with Engineers Without Borders and IEEE, has taken him to many countries: he is passionate about bringing renewable energy to those without access to power.
