Dr. Shailendra Singh Dr. Shailendra Singh of Space Application Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad

Topic:

Design of Higher Order Harmonic and Fundamental Mixers

Microwave mixers are essential elements of majority of RF transmission and reception systems, be it communication systems or RADAR systems. Advancements in high frequency device technologies have led to realization of high frequency RF elements like Low noise amplifier and gain modules for receiver front ends. Likewise, need for innovative mixer designs have arisen.

This talk shall focus on ‘Microwave Mixers Circuit Design’ covering basics of Mixers, Design Methodologies, topologies, tips for first shot successful designs and Dos and Don’ts for good designs. Few examples of specific and innovative mixer designs shall also be discussed.

Biography:

Dr. Shailendra Singh acquired Master of Technology degree in Microwave Electronics in the year 2004 from University of Delhi, South Campus, India. In the same year, he joined Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as an RF and microwave expert. He completed his Ph.D. in 2019 from Nirma University.

Dr. Shailendra Singh has been working in ISRO for the past 16 years, as an RF module and RF subsystem designer for various microwave remote sensing payloads of ISRO.

These include:

1. Various C and X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR) for Space-borne Missions

2. Various C and X-Band Airborne Imaging and Disaster Management Missions.

3. Millimeter wave Temperature Sounding Radiometer

4. Ku-Band Wind vector Scatterometer

In project management profile of ISRO, he had a humble beginning as a designer and gradually rose to focal project person to project manager. Currently, he is serving as a Deputy Project Director in one the esteemed ongoing RADAR Mission of ISRO.

In the field of research, he has accomplished cutting edge research for space technology in the areas of:

1. Design and development of RF MEMS based circuits

2. Design and development of THz modules

3. Critical and novel MMICs designs.

4. Microwave Harmonic Mixing

5. RF and millimetre wave Packaging techniques

His design of 50-60 GHz Subharmonic Mixer MMIC is the first MMIC design in India to be registered at “Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout-Design Registry (SICLDR); Government of India”

He is the Review committee member of several Technical Review committees in ISRO.

He has several journal and conference publications to his credit and is a reviewer for several journals. He has been serving as executive member of several technical and scientific societies and also has been substantial in organizing several conferences. He served as the secretary of IEEE APS/MTTS Gujarat Chapter for the past 2 years.
