Henry Ford Estate – Thomas Edison Hydroplant Tour 2021
Henry Ford Estate – Thomas Edison Hydroplant Tour 2021
The Southeastern Section of IEEE will host another tour of the Fairlane Estate — Home of Clara and Henry Ford — where Henry and Thomas Edison built a hydropower plant on the Rouge River across the street from the University of Michigan Dearborn.
This is among the first residential direct current hydropower microgrids ever built in the United States. To learn more about the history of this site, check out the Library of Congress webpage on this. Our previous tour took place in April 2019, and the event lasted approximately 4 hours — including transportation from and to pick-up and drop-off points (to be determined logistically). Lunch will be provided at 12 noon, actual tour is for 2 hours, then return to University of Michigan-Dearborn campus starting at 2 PM; arriving at the original pick up points no later than 3 PM. To hasten the planning process, start by registering yourself at site.
Parallel announcements will be placed on IEEESEM Wavelengths website, IEEE SEM Twitter feed and the IEEE Education & Healthcare website.
