Abstract of the above Lecture:

***************************

In this modern day of computers and digital data, the role of data analytics is becoming ever more important. Electric power systems are complex number generating machines and it is of utmost importance that we know what to do with all the (digital) data that is being generated. While basic concepts from statistics are highly relevant to our understanding of electric power equipment, the combination of monitoring, diagnostics and prognostics takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to making holistic decisions regarding failure prediction, equipment maintenance and capital planning.

This lecture focuses on basic concepts of data analytics as applicable to the electric utility business. While the central focus remains on Asset Management, case studies dealing with Transmission, Distribution and Generation are presented. Asset Management comprises the assessment and mitigation of the risk of failure of electric assets/equipment subject to resource constraints.
