IEEE Brew with the Crew - Oct. 28, 2021 - SEC Cyber-Incident Reporting Research and CDI Overview
Brew with the Crew Informal Seminar Series - Sponsored by Eastern Idaho IEEE, INL ICIS, Idaho ISA
Resilient Control & Instrumentation Systems (ReCIS), in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Society of Automation (ISA), would like to invite anyone interested to "Brew with the Crew," an after-work event that will take place every third Thursday of the month, 4:00-5:00 via Microsoft Teams (Click here to join the Microsoft Teams meeting to join or dial 208.901.7635 #378818148 to call in). The purpose of the meetings is to allow opportunity for instrumentation, control and intelligent systems researchers and practitioners to interact with others in their community, both inside and outside of INL. In this informal forum, people are not required to provide a documented presentation, but instead to share the nature of their research and interests and to possibly include some interesting stories along the way.

SEC Cyber-Incident Reporting Research and CDI Overview
This presentation will give a brief, introductory overview of the Capabilities, Data, and Integration
task area within the IAA CyberSecurity Division before diving into past, present, and future research relating
to Cyber Risk reporting to the SEC (Security and Exchange Commission). As cyberthreats continue to
escalate on a global scale, cost of cybercrime continues to increase in a parallel fashion. Ongoing research
in the field of cyber risk reporting continues to show that companies are hesitant to report cyber-related
risks for various reasons. Some of these include the cost and efficacy of cyber insurance coverage, negative
publicity, decrease in stock price, and contingent legal liability. The purpose of this research is to encourage
the SEC to engage relevant stakeholders (e.g. public companies, investment firms, regulatory offices, US
Department of Homeland Security) to develop a cyber risk framework that provides more consistency in
reporting cyber risk.
