Prof. Salah S A Obayya is the Chair Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Photonics and Smart Materials
(CPSM), at Zewail City of Science and Technology (ZC). He served in numerous academic positions at Brunel University, University of Leeds, and the University of South Wales, UK where he was the Founding Director of Photonics and Broadband Communications (PBC) Research Center.

He has established an outstanding international reputation in the area of green
nanophotonics with focus on the intelligent computational modeling of modern nanophotonic devices enabling technologies needed to realise low-carbon green society. He led the team that developed one of the world’s best comprehensive numerical packages for the analysis, design and optimization of nano-photonic devices, and subsystems, where a number of “world-first” numerical approaches have been developed.

He has published 276 journal publications, mostly in OSA, IEEE and IET/IEE, authored 3 books, supervised to successful completion 40 PhD students, over 80 MSc/MRes/MPhil students and 15 postdoctoral research fellows, and won numerous prestegious national and international awards.

He has served in editorial boards of numerous journals including IEEE Photonics Technology Letters,
Journal of Optical and Quantum Electronics, J Optical and Quantum Electronics (2010).

Dr. Obayya is an elected as a Fellow to the American Physical Society (APS), Optical Society of America (OSA), IEEE Photonics Society, African Academy of Science (AAS), the Institute of Engineering and Technology, IET (formerly FIEE), Institute of Physics (IoP), Higher Education Academy, U.
