From the time that the Y2K bug was in the headlines, our homes have been invaded by computers. We usually think about computers as either bulky items that need charging or the permanent fixtures stood on our desks. The reality is that computers can be smaller than the size of your thumbnail and be thousands of times more powerful than the Apollo guidance computer! But how do we control all these computers? Well, with another computer obviously! May I introduce to you - Raspberry Pi, “The credit card sized computer.”  This talk will introduce some of the ways that the Raspberry Pi can be used as a general “controller” device - to coordinate all of the “smart devices” in your home.

Piotr Kula

Piotr Kula was practically born with a keyboard! From a young age, he has been self-taught in the technology space and he eventually evolved himself into a qualified polyglot software engineer. He currently works as a Technical Lead for a large European health and safety company, a company that has products written in all your favorite languages (and maybe even some not-too-favorite ones). Piotr is especially passionate about hardware and software in the electronic hobbyist area, authored two books about this topic (Raspberry Pi Server Essentials), and even learned about custom PCB fabrication. Piotr is primarily a C# and .NET evangelist and is extremely happy that in the past few years the Linux and Windows ecosystems have evolved in a way that improves their ability to interchange data and co-exist.
