Electrical Insulation Research in the State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment at Xi’an Jiaotong University of China
The State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment was established in 1991. The laboratory’s research is in the frontier of electrical insulation and electric power equipment. The laboratory has undertaken a number of large-scale projects, and its contributions have been recognized through a series of awards, including seven national awards and 38 provincial awards in scientific research. The laboratory currently has more 50 full-time academics. In this seminar, Professor Kai Wu, Professor Yonghong Chen, and Associate Professor Yu Chen will highlight recent research and development works conducted in the laboratory. Their topics will cover (1) HVDC insulation; (2) life cycle cost assessment on insulation diagnosis; (3) discharge and breakdown of micro-gaps; and (4) Polymer nano-composites.

Biography:
Prof. Kai Wu, "Changjiang Scholarship" professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He obtained his PhD degree in 1998. From 1998 to 2006, he worked in Nagoya University, Japan，University of Leicester, UK and Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, Japan. From 2006, he became a full professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research fields covers electrical insulation and urban energy system.
Prof. Cheng of Xi'an Jiaotong University

Biography:
Prof. Yonghong Cheng, "Changjiang Scholarship" professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He obtained his PhD degree in 1999. From 1985 to 1994, he worked in Shanghai Cable Institute and Northwest Power Test Institute. From 2001, he became a full professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research interests include insulation diagnosis, nano-dielectrics, and microelectronics insulation reliability.
