Prof. Miroslav Begovic
Challenges in front of electric utility industry and a brief overview of IEEE PES activities in support of solutions
Biography:
Prof Miroslav Begovic is President of IEEE Power & Energy Society and is Department Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. Prior to that, he was Professor and Chair of the Electric Energy Research Group in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and an affiliated faculty member of the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems and University Canter of Excellence in Photovoltaic Research at Georgia Tech. Dr. Begovic obtained his PhD from Virginia Tech University. His research interests are in monitoring, analysis, and control of power systems, as well as development and applications of renewable and sustainable energy systems. He has been a member of the IEEE PES Power System Relaying Committee for two decades and chaired a number of its working groups. Prof. Begovic is a Fellow of IEEE and member of Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi and Eta Kappa Nu. Dr. Begovic is a former Chair of the Emerging Technologies Coordinating Committee of IEEE PES, IEEE PES Treasurer (2010â€2011), IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer, and serves as President of the IEEE Power and Energy Society. He has published over 200 journal articles and has been the project director, or principal investigator, in research projects with total funding of well over $12 million. The research projects included sponsors such as the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the Department of Energy, and utilities such as Southern Company, Baltimore Gas & Electric, Commonwealth Edison.
Dr Damir Novosel

Biography:
Dr. Damir Novosel, President, Quanta Technology Expert, has over 26 years of experience working with electric utilities and vendors. He has developed and consulted on a number of concepts and methods to improve power system planning, operation and maintenance. Damir has created and managed several reputable and successful organizations that developed innovative technology and industry best practices in various areas of power systems. Prior to joining Quanta Technology, he was President of T&D Consulting at KEMA in the U.S. He has also held various positions in ABB including Vice President of global product management for automation products and Manager of the power systems consulting group. He is Presidentâ€Elect for the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and his work earned him international recognition and reputation and was elected IEEE Fellow. He presently holds 16 U.S. and international patents. Damir published over 100 articles in Refereed Journals and Conference Proceedings in various areas of power system management, analysis, protection and automation. He coâ€authored a paper in IEEE Spectrum on "Getting a Grip on the Grid" and contributed to McGrawâ€Hill 2006 Yearbook of Science and Technology
