Big Bang - Creation of the Universe
Synopsis of presentation
Mankind has been looking up, in wonder, at the night sky for thousands of years, but it is only in the recent past that we have been able to observe the sky to gather data about our universe. Observations of the sky allow us to see back ~13.8 billion years into the universes past, gain knowledge about its geometry, measure its age, and its density history just to name a few. While the events that immediately followed the big bang are masked from our observation. They shaped our universe and set into motion the structure that gave rise to everything we know. Looking back to just after the Universe becomes transparent to radiation we can better understand what happened before this. We will discuss the first ~300,000 years of the universe and explore the physical frame work of events. This will lead us to a basic understanding of modern cosmology and what observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (Remnant energy of the big bang) can teach us.
