CYPHER 3.0 - Inter University Coding and Ethical Hacking Competition (The Grand Finale)

The IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University successfully organized CYPHER 3.0, an inter-university coding and ethical hacking competition that brought together talented students from 15 universities across Sri Lanka. The event provided a dynamic platform for participants to showcase their technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities in software development and cybersecurity.

The competition featured two categories: the Hackathon and the Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge. Prior to the event, a pre-awareness session and two technical sessions were held to guide participants and enhance their technical knowledge. Following this, an online pre-task was conducted, and based on the results, 10 finalist teams from each category advanced to the grand finale.

The final round, held on 18th October 2025 at the KDU premises, was filled with innovation and teamwork as participants tackled real-world challenges. At the end of the final competition, the top three teams from each category were recognized for their outstanding performance. In the Hackathon Challenge, Team Repeaters from the University of Kelaniya secured First Place, Team CAPRIQORN(IV) from the University of Moratuwa achieved Second Place, and Team Byte Seekers from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University earned Third Place. In the CTF Challenge, Team !403_Privileged from the University of Moratuwa won First Place, Team The Unknowns from SLIIT took Second Place, and Team Yakuza from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura claimed Third Place.

The event was organized in collaboration with HASHX, the official paid technical partner, whose support ensured smooth execution and high technical standards. The awarding ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, the IEEE Student Branch Counsellor, the IEEE WIE Affinity Group Advisor, and the inaugural chairwoman of IEEE WIE KDU.

CYPHER 3.0 stood as a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and empowerment, reflecting the IEEE WIE Affinity Group’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership in technology and inspiring the next generation of ethical and skilled tech professionals.
