Abstract: Solar and Wind Power in Rayalaseema

Rayalaseema, located in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh, has emerged as one of India’s most promising regions for renewable energy development. Its unique climatic conditions—characterized by high solar irradiance, low rainfall, and expansive open land—make it an ideal hub for large-scale solar power generation. At the same time, select zones within the region experience consistent wind speeds that support the establishment of wind farms, contributing significantly to the state’s green energy portfolio.

In recent years, Rayalaseema has witnessed rapid growth in utility-scale solar parks, wind farms, and hybrid renewable installations. The integration of these sources has strengthened the regional grid, supported Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy targets, and promoted sustainable economic development. However, challenges such as variability in power generation, grid stability, land utilization, and balancing demand–supply dynamics highlight the need for advanced forecasting, energy storage, and efficient operation and maintenance strategies.

This talk provides an overview of the technical, environmental, and operational aspects of solar and wind energy deployment in Rayalaseema. It discusses current installations, performance characteristics, grid integration practices, and future opportunities for hybrid systems and renewable energy expansion. The session aims to offer valuable insights for academicians, researchers, industry professionals, and students interested in India’s evolving renewable energy landscape.

Halaharvi Sudheendra Rao serves as an Executive Engineer for APTRANSCO. Information regarding his specific professional profile indicates the following details, primarily sourced from official memorandums regarding promotions and postings:
  • Current Title: Executive Engineer (Electrical)
  • Employer: APTRANSCO (Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited)

India is entering a new era of energy infrastructure. By 2032, the nation plans to add 80 GW of coal-based power capacity—a strategic move to meet the surging electricity demand driven by AI data centers and industrial growth. As part of this transformation, over 50 large generators, each rated between 600–800 MW at very high voltage levels, are rapidly progressing through design, manufacture, erection, and commissioning across major power plants.
