Energy Storage and the Future of the Grid,
Speaker: Alex Chorey, Snohomish PUD
Title: Energy Storage and the Future of the Grid
Abstract: As the demand for electricity rises and new generation sources are slow to develop, utilities need to adopt new technologies to help balance growing loads against available generation. Energy storage will be a key piece of a reliable and affordable future grid, but construction and implementation of these new tools is not as straightforward as traditional utility projects. This presentation will walk through Snohomish PUD's process of building the largest battery in the Pacific Northwest, as well as explore some of the utility's other projects in development.
Bio: Alex Chorey has worked as an engineer for Snohomish County Public Utility District for over 18 years. After graduating from Gonzaga University in 2007, he joined the PUD's distribution and transmission engineering groups to build and maintain the electrical grid in Snohomish County. After spending much of his career focused on building the infrastructure to deliver power to customers, he transitioned to his current role in the Energy Storage and Emerging Technologies group which is working to ensure that the PUD has reliable capacity resources to flow through that infrastructure. Alex is a Washington native, and is excited to be a part of the development of clean energy resources in the Pacific Northwest.
