Believing in the motto of ‘serving humanity’ and in all-round development of students, IEEE Computer Society Chapter of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology organized a session on Mock interviews on Saturday 21st September 2013 in Ghulam Ahmed Hall of MJCET exclusively for fourth year IEEE student members. The session commenced at 11:30 AM, lasted up till 1:30 PM and witnessed a student participant turnout of 25.

Handling the ‘hot seat’ can be one of the most nerve-wracking aspects of the job hunting process; ICS MJCET came up with this session to calm those interview nerves, to assist the aspiring engineers prepare themselves beforehand, and to help them get ready for making the right impression during their final placements.

The interviews were conducted by the panel that consisted of trained and highly engaged Accenture employees who happen to be alumni of MJCET. The panel tried to make the interviews as realistic as possible in order to provide concrete experience for the candidates. They judged the interviewees HR credibility and technical aptitude, by challenging them on customized questions based on their background, area of interest, and any other information they provided. The panel evaluated the student’s confidence, communication skills, attitude and body language at the same time. In fact, many of the questions asked were interview questions from actual employers.

The session helped the students clarify their story, nail down traditional interview questions like:
• Tell me about yourself
• What are your strengths?
• What are your weaknesses?
• Why are you interested in working for this company? And behavioral type questions like:
• Describe a situation when…
• Name a specific approach to….
• Tell me about a time when…
The mock interview and critique lasted approximately 20-25 minutes. The mock interview took about 15 minutes, followed by the most important element- the ‘5-10 minute feedback portion’ wherein the interviewers highlighted the interviewees strengths, provided areas for improvement and clarified any queries.

Students displayed great interest in the session. It helped them learn the types of questions they may be asked, how to answer them in a professional manner, how to dress for an interview, how to prepare for various interview types, what is expected in a job, how to improve the applicant's self-presentation, etc.
As the session ended, the students were deeply impressed and greatly inspired.
