[Legacy Report] A workshop on "Software Defined Radio (SDR) Development Using LabVIEW"
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee's IEEE MTT17 Student Branch Chapter organized a two-days workshop on “Software Defined Radio (SDR) Development Using LabVIEWâ€. The first speaker, Mr Raviteja Chivukula, is working as an application engineer at NI(National Instruments) and is a graduate of IIT Madras, India. The second speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Pawlan, has been a consultant as owner of Pawlan Communications for 20 years. he is a distinguished microwave lecturer of IEEE MTT Society and Senior member of two MTT Technical committee, MTT-9 and MTT-20. Prior to that, he had worked for many companies in California in very diverse areas of analog, RF, and microwave design. Some of his work was for NASA projects. Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, he attended UCLA and several other universities.
The workshop informed the participants about Basics of LabVIEW as a graphical programming language from the perspective of software-defined functionality. Participants experienced the hands-on training of Software defined radio on LabVIEW platform. It also highlighted various aspects of software-defined radio and cognitive radio. The honorable speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Pawlan, delivered an enlightening talk on software-defined radio for microwave application: Explanation, Evolution, Design Details, your role in SDR and several live demonstrations. the lecture also introduced the concepts of oversampling and undersampling as it applies to SDR. there was an introduction to the details of correctly driving and implementing an A/D converters, firmware and software portions of SDR and comparison with state-of-the-art conventional analog circuitry. Also, a live demonstration of SDR is presented in front of audience.
