[Legacy Report] Seminar: Cloud-RAN - A New Design Paradigm for Cooperative Wireless Networks
The Cloud Radio Access Network (Cloud-RAN) is a transformative network architecture for future cellular networks. By shifting the baseband signal processing to a single baseband unit (BBU) pool, it enables centralized signal processing and resource allocation, and thus can improve the spectrum efficiency, the energy efficiency, the cost efficiency, and the resource utilization efficiency. The new architecture of Cloud-RAN brings unique advantages as well as new design challenges. In this talk, the following three design problems will be discussed: 1) Group sparse beamforming for green Cloud-RAN; 2) Large-scale optimization algorithms for Cloud-RAN; 3) Stochastic coordinated beamforming with compressive channel state information (CSI) acquisition. New optimization tools will be introduced to solve these problems, i.e., optimization with sparsity-inducing penalties, the operator splitting method, and joint chance constrained programming.
