[Legacy Report] A Workshop on Global Earth Surface Mapping with Remote Sensing Imagery
Landsat optical remote sensing system operating at visible and reflective thermal wavelengths in the range of 0.4μm to 12μm is very useful for land cover and land use monitoring. The Landsat series of satellites have contributed to a more than 40-year record of global land cover observations since 1972. The most recent one Landsat 8 known as the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) was launched earlier last year on February 11, 2013. It continually performs the duty of previous missions and provides more advanced data than the earlier instruments. In this workshop, the use of Landsat data for earth surface mapping will be presented and discussed, in terms of the opportunities and the challenges.
