Model based engineering (MBE) has captured the attention of not just the engineering community but also the business community due to the distinct advantages it brings to the table. MBE is all about building a master model that can be used to direct all other downstream activities and also to commit the upstream decisions like
system specifications, pricing and delivery times. In this presentation the author discusses the salient characteristics of MBE in the context of development of Radar. Radar is a very complex system that needs integration of several disjointed technologies and very thorough field testing. It is a combination of mechanical,
thermal, software, electrical, electronic and many other branches of engineering. In this paper it will be specifically focused on the electronic systems and how MBES is applied to their development. For example complex motion of Radar and target(s), complex propagation environment and their effect on signal conditioning and signal processing will be discussed.
